Top of the list victory

Now we arrive at the light half of the year, the lusty month of May – how marvelous! The birds beam with loud trumpet. I am ever so grateful that I dedicated this year to move forward with faith. Everything has changed, as you know, since the mid-winter studio update.

What is the best thing that has happened since January 31, for you personally?

Top of the list victory is that I already achieved my 2020 goal of finding a new direction in art that fuels my soul. It’s all come together in the Love Letter series.  It wasn’t mentioned in the last update, but writing more than usual, there are several blog posts about Love Letters to Henry Miller you may have read. For each of the nine, I start with a note from my journal that were inspired by his writing and watercolor paintings. This is followed by a quote by Miller.

Now Love Letters to Humanity, a series of eleven artworks are finished and published. Having done this fulfills the (hopefully universal) desire for communication, soul connection, imaginative life. See what you think!

Artist Support Pledge

Soon I will be joining an international movement on Instagram. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many artists have found themselves without work, teaching, technical support, gallery work, exhibitions and sales have disappeared. In an attempt to help alleviate some of this Matthew Burrows Studio started Artist Support Pledge.

The concept is a simple one. You post images of your work to sell for no more than $200 (not including shipping.) Anyone can then buy the work. Every time you reach $1000. of sales you pledge to buy another artists work for $200.

I’m pledging to do this and will send an email at that time. If you are an artist and you want to participate, post your work with the #artistsupportpledge and follow the #, keep updated on news and further opportunities @artistsupportpledge.

Garden

My love of gardening has blossomed this season, with major help from Greg, they are showing promise of abundance to come soon. If you live nearby, you might check up on available produce (lettuce do that!). We’ve been amending the soil, harvesting bamboo to make trellises and tomato cages, thinning lilacs and Iris, pruning, weeding, and starting many vegetables and flowers in the greenhouse. That had become a sort of storage space when we were building the studio annex. All the herbs and early plants are already being harvested. It’s been enjoyable to make herb salt and foraged things like violet vinegar.

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers, grandmothers, great grandmothers, god mothers and faery god mothers. You are very precious. I’m thinking especially of my daughter, who is such a wonderful mother and my dearly departed mom, missing them both.

I do hope to attend art openings with viewers like you soon. Until then, I’ll do my best to be creative and do what’s necessary.
