For an equinox ~ equinox project, I have challenged myself to do a blog series about my daily art practice in Midori journals from participation in Art2Life. Like many of you I have been journaling for years. This method, that I wrote about in the spring, is enduring.

I’m on my second such journal, covering over 200 pages. This practice and the 18 paintings created since the vernal equinox has occupied my focus to the exclusion of most everything else, including blogging and updating this website.

The quickening energy towards autumn prompts me to start writing and sharing about it all. There is much more to follow until September 22. The first 5 page-spreads shown below are art boards of color schemes and themes, components collected from my past art work.

Daily art practice includes notes about fun and accomplishments and paintings responding to things that happened, like seeing the first mockingbird,

It is helpful to work out pallets and design. I photographed and collaged a print of each stage of the 12×12″ panels that were becoming paintings. I say becoming because they had multiple layers of paint that seldom looked the same when finished, like the panel on the left side of the journal.

I remember being excited about the feather, simply done with one stroke of black and one of white.
