Beyond the Horse
Beyond the Horse exhibit featuring 20 artists at tribeca trunk was seen by appointment.
Considering the spirit beyond the representational rendering of horse, ancient earthwork tributes come to my mind, thus the idea for Talisman for White Horse 1 and 2.
Talisman for White Horse 1 depicts the Uffington White Horse near Wantage. Formed from deep trenches filled with crushed white chalk and visible for miles, this huge equine hill figure was carved around 1000 BC in the late Bronze Age making it the oldest surviving hill figure in Britain. It is also the largest at 360 feet from head to tail.
Talisman for White Horse 2 depicts a white pictograph painted on the walls of Chauvet Caves in France. The paintings are dated to 32,000 BC, which makes them the world’s oldest artwork.
