I want to backtrack to the winter when I created “Blessings”, a series of six watercolors. They are on the Grace art page, but I was busy at the time and didn’t write about the amazing thing I saw on my studio window that sparked the work.
Sometimes it’s difficult to jump start the work. In this case it was a dreary January day with lots of snow outside but it started to rain. Sitting mindlessly, staring out I noticed a formation of raindrops streaming down in an elongated triangle. It was mesmerizing, and the phrase came to mind that it was a blessing from above. See the video below with one of the bamboo forests beyond. I am always appreciative of moisture after living in Colorado for many years.
I used the paints from my third 3 primary colors palette, and with a permanent pen made dots to represent the phenomenon. It was a true pleasure to pursue the idea. See them for the first time at the Spring Into Art Open Studio, April 23.
Quite beautiful and calming. And inspiring, which I need right now.
Learning to let acrylics blend somewhat like watercolors… but in their own way!
We all could use some calming, so I’m happy you respond this way, Rebecca. I’ve used acrylics that was also, because I’ve always liked transparency. Enjoy your creating.
