Clearing Studio Dust
Over the weekend, probably because it was so cold and damp and I was happy to be inside, I did a clearing of studio dust and messes that have been tolerated. The worst part was the torn and marked up white paper that covers the west workbench. I hadn’t changed it in ages. That’s because to do it right I’d have to take everything off the surface.
As is so often the case when I tackle an unsavory chore it takes on a deeper value. Finding scraps of notes re-inspires previous ideas. Surveying the buried materials I realize the layout was not functioning well for current endeavors. Somethings must remain in place, like the right corner shrine to creativity, but slightly rearranged. It becomes a treasure hunt.
When the surface is cleared, I can imagine its new purpose for function.
Why do it at this time? ARTTOUR, the biggest Open Studio of the year! It didn’t feel right to put my new art and greeting cards on worn out surface.
Now, all the tools for painting are on the left side, inks, cutters, miscellaneous and shrine talismans are on the right side. There’s plenty of space to display art for the event.
