Here are a few public places you can see Kathleen O’Brien’s art work.
At UKHealthCare, Chandler Hospital Pavilion you can see “Garden of Healing, Garden of Hope” on the ground floor near the concourse and Celebrate Kentucky Wall.
Garden of Healing, Garden of Hope , 30 x 38″, is a mixed media collage diptych on permanent display at UK HealthCare Chandler Hospital, Lexington, KY.
It was commissioned for the Teresa Garbulinska Annual Premier Concert Series which is an annual feature of the Lucille Caudill Little Performing Arts in HealthCare Program, UK HealthCare. In 2011 the concert featured violinist Midori.
the story goes…
“Walking my Corgi on a late June morning I found 2 four leaf clovers, which alerted me to a cheerful day ahead. When the project to create artwork for the Midori concert was explained I immediately felt akin to it. The idea to paint, draw and collage a “Garden of Healing, Garden of Hope” came to mind.
I resonate with Midori’s concepts about sense of place and peace being a state of mind, one that resides inside. I set about to conjure images that would convey a sense of comfort, peace, healing and hope to the viewer; gardens for the heart. A lovely woman, Minori, taught me how to write the Kanji for healing and hope.
Peony and lotus are symbols for healing, as are leaves of arnica, yarrow and Clary sage, Reiki symbol and healing hands. Chrysanthemum and almond blossom are symbols for hope as well as origami crane, poppy, rose and hoya petals. Drawings of violin shapes bring music to the gardens, mica reflects light and the clovers share their luck.
It is an honor to be a part of the Teresa Garbulinska Annual Premier Concert Series, and a meaningful one. My father was a pianist whose love was Chopin. He and my mother met in Japan, where I was born. Through this artwork I share peace with you.”
A limited edition of Giclée prints was created for gifts to the donors of UK HealthCare.
Also at the UK HealthCare, Chandler Hospital see three drawings on Twinrocker Linen paper; “Hawk Feather Prayer Stick”, “Sun Worship”, “Turkey Feather Fan”. These were from a series of eight that I made with healing in mind, so I am happy that they are on display in patient rooms.
At another Lexington Kentucky Hospital, St. Joseph East Hospital, you may see “Song for Superb Parrot”.
The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce acquired “Above and Beyond”, “Treasure Map 10” and “Treasure Map 11” for the executive office.
