In Light of the Snow, Guest Post by Greg Orth

The recent snowstorms brought the expected challenges, but it surprisingly also brought light, bright, evenly diffused light from all directions. As the builder of the studio, I had hoped to bring in light from as many directions as possible, even bouncing it off of the cathedral ceiling, yet I had not imagined the effect snow would have. Snowed In, Getting So Much Done for “Talismans” Exhibit

Snowed In, Getting So Much Done for “Talismans” Exhibit

I have to admit, I love getting snowed in. It helps me focus on getting so much done for the Talismans exhibit opening March 15. Having a fire in the wood-stove and my husband home for days on end made it an extended Valentines week. As I write this, our 1/4 mile driveway is still impassible. My husband, on his favorite toy, mowed the drifts (my idea, since we do not have a plow) His car got out to the end of the driveway before it drifted over again. Talismans, Bead Jewelry & Artifacts Premiering for Open Studio

Talismans, Bead Jewelry & Artifacts Premiering for Open Studio

Talismans, bead jewelry & artifacts are premiering for this year’s  Open Studio, first weekend in November. I’m excited to reveal what I’ve been creating this summer, revisiting my life-long love of beads. I consider  these Talismans to be 3-D collage, a layering of materials held together with cord, instead of glue. It is an honor to handle the beads in my collection- ancient, antique, vintage, handmade, semi-precious stone and just plain pretty new ones. They are  assembled together into power objects, Talismans, to adorn your body or the wall of your cozy home. (more…)
