The Art Dollies came from all over the world to see the eleven Love Letters to Humanity. They love to get out and around.
PS: Some of the dolls are Treasures of Italy dolls from the 1950’s, some are rescued from antique shows, some are hand made by Kathleen O’Brien.

Jennifer Gleason is the farmer and creator of Sunflower Sundries and the passion behind the products produced on her small farm. Her whole life has been dedicated to learning about homestead arts and loves making things by hand from local ingredients. We are so proud to know her and her husband, poet Jim Lally. Robert Bellows Studio
Just north of Haystack Mountain Robert Bellows Studio is embraced by the land. His Owl greeted us from the entry. For years we enjoyed this fierce yet friendly totem in his front yard in Boulder. He was the first artist I know of to use rusty farm equipment to fabricate his sculptures.
Robert graciously gave us a tour of his work in progress, The Warrior StoryField, a conversation between veterans and civilians in the language of art. (more…)

Press Conference for Legacy Trail Blazes
Lexington Mayor Jim Gray held a press conference on October 13 at Lexmark, on the Legacy Trail near one of the fifteen blazes (flags) to announce it and congratulate the artists. Five of the fifteen artists were able to attend along with the officials who created the trail and Kate Sprengnether who organized the artists. (Watch the seven minute video). The day could not have been more perfect, sunny with a breeze to make the blazes flutter. (more…)

Looking Back on Lilac Time
The cloud people were so generous with their raindrops this spring that the lilacs responded in multitudinous wonder at Sunwise Farm and Sanctuary. All I could do was sit next to a bunch and breathe. To date it is the most uplifted I have felt from “my” land. All I could think of was to call my friends and coax them out of their frenzy to take have an afternoon tea next to the west porch hedge. Or lie with the blossoms that were draped over the hammock. (more…)

Video of the Show, “Talisman for Going On”
Click here to watch a two minute video of the Talismans exhibit that opened last week and continues until April 18. If at all possible see it in person, because the subtleties are hard to make out online, like in Talismans for Going On. As is the case with this piece, sometimes I create something to see that encourages me to go on creating. This large collage developed over a six month period. (more…)

Despite an unseasonable snow storm, the turnout for the 6th Annual Open Studio ARTTOUR was wonderful. Thank you all for coming to my and the other studios. There was a steady stream of tourists, a validation of the need for art events in rural areas. As promised, I made a short video that you can see on the event page. It was shot in haste Friday evening just as the sun was setting, the only sun beam we saw that day. It took longer than usual to set up.

Last weekend was the time to take down our Morning Glory Wall on the east side of the porch. It is always a shock, first to say good bye to some of my favorite flowers, and the feeling of shelter they provide, second to experience how much light comes into the house, light that is welcome this time of year. We balance that shock by decorating the outdoors with beads of all sizes, beads in surprise places, fun preparations for the Open Studio, fun things for you to see and find. (more…)
